Breast Revision Surgery at Studio Plastic Surgery in Toronto

Patients who have had breast augmentation aren’t always satisfied with the results. Over time, implants may change or need replacement, or a patient’s personal aesthetic may change.  Revision breast augmentation is often challenging as we are attempting to correct previous work and are working with scar tissue, which can be less predictable. Dr. Kunaal Jindal at Studio Plastic Surgery is a specialist in revisionary breast augmentation and has extensive experience in helping women realize their aesthetic goals.

Dr. Jindal takes great pride in his work and often uses complex reconstructive measures to achieve the best outcome for his patients.

When to Consider Breast Revision

Patients come to Studio Plastic Surgery interested in breast revision when they find that they are unhappy with the results of a previously performed breast augmentation surgery or if they have found themselves experiencing medical complications. Breast revision requires a true expert, as the surgery to correct previous errors or issues with implants is more complex.

Some of the most common reasons that a patient might be interested in breast revision in Toronto include the following:

  • Malpositioned implants that have migrated away from their original placement
  • Capsular contracture, a condition in which the body forms a hardened capsule of scar tissue around the breast implant
  • A ruptured implant
  • The desire for a different size or shape of implants
  • Correction of drooping of breast tissue after augmentation
  • A desire to remove implants entirely

Your Preoperative Consultation

Your surgical journey at Studio Plastic Surgery will begin with a thoughtful consultation with an expert breast surgeon, Dr. Kunaal Jindal. This will give you the chance to discuss your concerns about your current implants and your goals for your breasts. Dr. Jindal will examine you and help you explore the procedural options for breast augmentation revision.

During this appointment, you’ll also be able to ask any questions you might have, and Dr. Jindal will cover the procedure with you in detail, including incision placement, post-surgical scarring, and what to expect during your recovery period.

Types of Breast Augmentation Revision at Studio Plastic Surgery in Toronto

Depending on the issues you’d like to address and your aesthetic goals for the size and shape of your breasts, Dr. Jindal will recommend a technique that is ideal for you. We offer a wide range of advanced options for our patients. Dr. Jindal may also employ the use of advanced techniques using surgical scaffolds including an internal bra mesh or acellular dermal matrix.

Malposition Correction

In some cases, the breast implant may migrate to another area of the chest wall. This can be in any direction, as the implant can sit too high, too low (bottomed out), out to the side, or too close together.  This can sometimes cause discomfort, as well as a visible cosmetic issue. In this case, the surgery involves removing the old implants and performing a careful implant pocket correction, and placement of new implants.

Implant Exchange

If you have decided that you would like to change the size or projection of your implants to achieve a new look, exchange surgery allows patients to adjust their aesthetic by upsizing or downsizing their implants.

Capsular Contracture

Capsular contracture describes a condition in which the capsule around the implant, the normal scar tissue,  begins to thicken and squeeze the implant. This can result in an obvious deformity and can be quite painful, requiring the removal of the implant and management of the implant pocket. Dr. Jindal is an expert in secondary breast augmentation and managing these complications using elegant solutions.

Implant Rupture

Breast implants have a silicone shell that surrounds them that can occasionally break, resulting in an implant rupture.  In these cases, Dr. Jindal carefully removes the ruptured implants and meticulously manages the pocket prior to the insertion of a new implant.

Drooping or Sagging of breast tissue

Some patients experience drooping and sagging of the breast tissue after having breast implants. This may be a result of changes related to pregnancy and breastfeeding or sometimes fluctuations in weight.  Dr. Jindal understands the changes that occur in these situations and what is required to restore the breasts to their youthful appearance.  Most often, this involves a repair of the implant pocket, insertion of new implants, and a mastoplexy to reposition the nipple and tighten the lower pole of the breast.

Implant Removal

Occasionally, patients wish to remove their implants, which may result in a deflated and drooping appearance of the breasts.  Dr. Jindal often performs “explanations” in conjunction with breast lift surgery to correct those changes after implant removal.

Your Breast Revision Experience

Every patient is different, and your surgical plan will be customized around the issues you’ve been experiencing and your desires for breast augmentation. Dr. Jindal will collaborate with you on the creation of a customized surgical plan, and he’ll explain every aspect of it to you in detail before your procedure.

The duration of your procedure will vary according to the specifics of your customized treatment plan. In many cases, we can use the same incision lines that were created as a part of the initial breast augmentation surgery for this revision procedure, eliminating additional scarring.

Once your breast revision is complete, Dr. Jindal will meticulously close the incisions. At this point, you’ll rest in our recovery area. You will then be able to return home with a family member or friend to drive you.
