A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. Often performed to reverse changes from aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss, a breast lift restores a firmer, more youthful contour and repositions the nipple to a higher, more natural location.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a highly customized surgery that varies based on the degree of sagging (ptosis), your skin quality, and your goals. Dr. Jindal will select the most appropriate surgical technique to reshape and elevate the breasts while minimizing scarring and preserving nipple sensation.

Common surgical approaches include:

  • Peri-areolar lift – A circular incision around the areola, ideal for subtle lifting and often paired with implants.
  • Vertical (lollipop) lift – Involves an incision around the areola with a vertical line down to the breast fold, used for moderate reshaping and tightening.
  • Anchor (wise-pattern) lift – Adds a horizontal incision along the breast crease for more significant lifts when there is excess skin and more pronounced sagging.
  • Crescent lift – A less common option for very mild ptosis, using a small crescent-shaped incision above the areola, typically performed alongside augmentation for minor elevation.

Once incisions are made:

Breast tissue is reshaped and lifted to improve projection and firmness.

The nipple and areola are repositioned higher on the chest wall to restore a youthful placement. Areolar reduction may also be performed if desired.

Excess skin is carefully removed, and internal sutures are placed to support the new breast contour.

If a breast implant is part of your plan, it is inserted either under the breast tissue or beneath the pectoral muscle through the same incisions.

To close, Dr. Jindal uses meticulous layered suturing to optimize healing and minimize visible scarring. No drains are typically needed. The area is dressed with surgical tape and a soft compressive bra is applied to reduce swelling and support your new shape.

Dr. Jindal is a renowned expert in this operation and performs both of these procedures in the same surgical session, limiting the need for multiple recovery periods. This creates results that will more dramatically improve the shape, position, and projection of your breasts.

Autologous Augmentation + Lift (Autoaug)

Some patients are interested in subtly improving the size and projection of their breasts while also undergoing a breast lift. During this procedure, Dr. Jindal rearranges the breast tissue to reposition it under the nipple during the breast lift.  This repurposes the lower pole volume to create an implant of your own breast tissue (autologous). This is an ideal procedure for patients who have drooping but they are happy with their volume and just need a lift, but don’t want to be bigger.

Circumareolar Lift (Donut Lift)

This is an operation in which the scar is strictly placed around the areola only, without any vertical or breast crease scar.  This lift is reserved for patients with minimal drooping or patients who are looking for a reduction in their areolar size. A special gortex suture is used to help control areolar diameter and results in a stable long-term outcome. This can also be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation.

Recovery and Results after My Breast Lift

After breast lift surgery in Toronto, the recovery process will require about one week of downtime, and you will be provided a bra to wear as you recover. Rest, stay hydrated, and don’t exert yourself or lift anything heavy (more than five pounds). We will provide a detailed recovery and aftercare plan for you to follow to help with the process as you heal.

We will schedule follow-up appointments to ensure your recovery is going to plan.

After two weeks, your incisions will be healed, while swelling and bruising will be significantly reduced. Wait for one month and get the approval of your surgeon before you resume exercise.
