Who Is a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

The best way to determine whether or not you’re the ideal candidate for a breast lift is with a consultation with Dr. Jindal at Studio Plastic Surgery. In general, women in good health who are concerned about sagging or drooping breasts are typically candidates for a breast lift. Some of the reasons for considering a breast lift in Toronto include the following:

  • Massive weight loss, which can sometimes cause the breasts to sag or droop
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding, resulting in breast changes or sagging
  • Skin laxity due to the aging process, resulting in sagging over time
  • Genetic predisposition to sagging breasts

Benefits of Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, offers numerous benefits for women seeking to rejuvenate their breasts and enhance their overall appearance. Firstly, it addresses sagging or drooping breasts, restoring them to a more youthful and lifted position on the chest. This can significantly improve body proportions and enhance self-confidence, as breasts appear firmer and more aesthetically pleasing. Additionally, a breast lift can correct asymmetry and reshape the breasts for a more symmetrical and balanced look. The procedure also removes excess skin, which may have developed due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or aging, resulting in a smoother and more toned breast contour. Ultimately, a breast lift can help women feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies, improving their quality of life and self-image.

Your Consultation at Studio Plastic Surgery

The consultation process gives you a chance to get to know your surgeon and discuss any questions and concerns. Dr. Jindal will ask about your medical history and aesthetic goals for your breasts. Dr. Jindal will discuss different surgical options and advise on which is best for your needs.

We take care to ensure that our patients feel supported and comfortable at every step of the way. Dr. Jindal will discuss surgical techniques, what to expect during recovery, and cover all aspects of your procedure to help you feel prepared.

Your Breast Lift Procedure

Your breast lift will be performed while you are under general anesthesia to ensure the utmost safety and comfort. During the procedure, Dr. Jindal will make careful incisions according to the specifics of your customized surgical plan. These are placed as discreetly as possible to keep visible scarring to an absolute minimum.

Through these incisions, Dr. Jindal will lift and reposition your breast tissue to raise your breasts higher on your chest, while creating an improved shape and contour. A breast lift also involves a repositioning of the nipple to achieve an uptilted, youthful appearance.

Once the breasts have been repositioned, the incisions will be carefully closed. You will then spend some time resting in our recovery area before heading home with a family member or friend to begin your recovery process.

Breast Lift Options

As a breast surgery specialist, in addition to the traditional breast lift, Dr. Jindal also performs numerous variations to meet your aesthetic goals.

Breast Augmentation + Lift

In many cases, patients are interested in increased volume and benefit from the combination of a breast augmentation and a breast lift in Toronto. After pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breasts often become deflated and begin to sag, which is completely reversed with this procedure. Dr. Jindal is a renowned expert in this operation and performs both of these procedures in the same surgical session, limiting the need for multiple recovery periods. This creates results that will more dramatically improve the shape, position, and projection of your breasts.

Autologous Augmentation + Lift (Autoaug)

Some patients are interested in subtly improving the size and projection of their breasts while also undergoing a breast lift. During this procedure, Dr. Jindal rearranges the breast tissue to reposition it under the nipple during the breast lift.  This repurposes the lower pole volume to create an implant of your own breast tissue (autologous). This is an ideal procedure for patients who have drooping but they are happy with their volume and just need a lift, but don’t want to be bigger.

Circumareolar Lift (Donut Lift)

This is an operation in which the scar is strictly placed around the areola only, without any vertical or breast crease scar.  This lift is reserved for patients with minimal drooping or patients who are looking for a reduction in their areolar size. A special gortex suture is used to help control areolar diameter and results in a stable long-term outcome. This can also be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation.

Recovery and Results after Your Breast Lift

After breast lift surgery in Toronto, the recovery process will require about one week of downtime, and you will be provided a bra to wear as you recover. Rest, stay hydrated, and don’t exert yourself or lift anything heavy (more than five pounds). We will provide a detailed recovery and aftercare plan for you to follow to help with the process as you heal.

Will a breast lift leave visible scars?

Yes, breast lift surgery typically results in scars, but their visibility can vary depending on factors such as incision placement and individual healing characteristics. Your surgeon will discuss incision options and scar management techniques during your consultation.

How long does a breast lift procedure take?

The duration of a breast lift surgery varies depending on factors such as the extent of correction needed, the surgical technique used, and whether additional procedures such as breast augmentation or reduction are performed. On average, the procedure typically takes two to three hours.

How long do the results of a breast lift last?

While a breast lift can provide long-lasting results, the natural aging process, gravity, and other factors may eventually cause the breasts to sag again over time. However, maintaining a stable weight and following a healthy lifestyle can help prolong the results of the procedure.

Are there any risks or complications associated with breast lift surgery?

Like any surgical procedure, breast lift surgery carries certain risks, including infection, bleeding, changes in nipple or breast sensation, poor wound healing, asymmetry, and the possibility of needing additional surgery for revision or complications. However, serious complications are rare when the procedure is performed by a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon in an accredited surgical facility.

How soon after pregnancy or breastfeeding can I have a breast lift?

It's generally recommended to wait at least six months to a year after breastfeeding before considering a breast lift. This allows time for the breasts to stabilize and return to a more consistent size and shape before undergoing surgery.
